What is Illustration?
I chose this illustration because I relate to it personally but it is also done by one of my favorite illustrators, Jack Hughes. He is a freelance illustrator living out of London, England. This illustration appeared on his personal blog as a promotional image celebrating the legalization of marriage equality in the United States. The message is that LGBTQ+ men and woman can now stand together a little taller in the fight for equal rights. The sender is literally Jack Hughes but in a way the U.S. government. The intended audience is LGBTQ+ viewers, activists, and fans of Hughes artwork. The communicative objective is to support the supreme courts decision and celebrate. The illustration was done in his sketchbook and then created in Adobe Photoshop.
